Kankakee's Voice On Mental Illness

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Kankakee County is a non-profit, self-help organization. We welcome all who have felt alone because of serious mental illness within the family. We hope you will join us in the rapidly growing network of people who are dedicated to the welfare of persons with mental illness and their families.

Our Mission is:

	to improve the quality of life for persons with mental illness;
	to provide support to families;
	to advocate for better services for persons with mental illness in the fields of housing, employment, medication and government;
	to promote and support research and any other worthwhile purposes.
	to develop an enlightened and more sympathetic public understanding of the problems of persons with mental illness and of the public responsibilities.

We Provide:

	Education: Providing training and educational materials for families and professionals and promoting programs to enhance the public's understanding of mental illness.
	Advocacy: Bringing the needs of the mentally ill and their families to the attention of legislators, service providers, medical staff, and the general public. Protecting the rights of persons with mental illness. Pressing for added community support services.
	Support: Focusing on family-to-family support and interaction through support group meetings.

In Memory Of

John Rollins

John Rollins, 66, of Chebanse, died Sunday, August 10, 2003 at his home, from cancer. Mr. Rollins was an outstanding leader and played an instrumental role in establishing NAMI Kankakee County. He and his wife, Sharon, also played an active role in the NAMI Illinois' Family-to-Family Education Program, reaching many area families in need of education regarding mental illness. John will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
